About the Film

From Academy Award-nominated filmmaker and best-selling author Sebastian Junger and his Emmy-winning filmmaking partner, Nick Quested, HELL ON EARTH chronicles Syria’s descent into the unbridled chaos that allowed the rise of the Islamic State, better known as ISIS. The film was released theatrically in New York City and Los Angeles, and it aired globally on the National Geographic Channel in 171 countries and 45 languages on Sunday, June 11, 2017.

About the Campaign

Working with National Geographic, Picture Motion engaged think tanks, non profit organizations, and influencers and experts in order to build awareness the rise and impact of ISIS, for the film’s broadcast premiere on June 11, 2017, as well as greater awareness for the current Syrian refugee crisis.

Our Work

Picture Motion reached out to think tanks and nonprofit organizations across the country, inviting them to host preview screenings of the film to build awareness and have conversations about the Syrian refugee crisis. Picture Motion also engaged issue area influencers, experts, and academics who would be interested in the content as it pertains to their research and ongoing work.

The Impact

Picture Motion secured 8 quotes and articles from leading academics studying the Middle East and ISIS’ impact for press outreach leading up to the film’s June 11 premiere on the National Geographic Channel, and confirmed 6 screenings of the film at think tanks and foreign affairs organizations in June 2017.
