COPD: Highly Illogical – A Special Tribute to Leonard Nimoy is an upcoming documentary about the life and legacy of the late Leonard Nimoy, co-produced by his daughter, Julie Nimoy and her husband, David Knight.
Diagnosed with COPD in 2013, Leonard dedicated himself to shedding new light on this common, but often undiagnosed disease that affects over 30 million Americans. In his final years, he openly discussed COPD and advocated for early detection, with the hope that we can all live long and prosper. The filmmakers are seeking to make the film COPD: Highly Illogical to share his story with the world and help fulfill Leonard’s last wish to raise awareness around this debilitating lung disease, which claimed his life in 2015.

The goal of this campaign is to make and distribute a film that shares Leonard Nimoy’s story and raises critical mass awareness around COPD. Specifically, to use this film to let those with COPD know that with proper management, they can still have a full and independent life. The campaign also hopes to help get the estimated 13 million undiagnosed COPD sufferers under a doctor’s supervision for proper diagnosis so that care can begin as soon as possible. In collaboration with partner organizations, the COPD: Highly Illogical campaign is seeking to provide COPD screenings at screenings of the film.
From December 2015 to March 2016, Picture Motion developed strategic partnerships around the upcoming film, launched several digital engagement initiatives, and managed the film’s crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.
The campaign released eight exclusive, never before seen videos of Leonard Nimoy on StarTrek.com, Space.com, TrekToday.com, and TrekNews.com to help promote the campaign. Coordinating with campaign partners, like XPRIZE, we also published an op-ed by Julie Nimoy on three different websites, including StarTrek.com and Huffington Post. The film campaign released a BitTorrent Bundle that was downloaded 16,507 times as well.
The COPD: Highly Illogical campaign raised $33,286 from 396 supporters on Indiegogo, and developed 18 new campaign partnerships for the film.
